How The Twins Were Discovered

Max Boyang and Louis Boyang are 11-year-old twins. They have always loved drawing since they were little. However from a family with three generations of scientists and engineers, their interest in art was never taken seriously.

In March, 2015, they were discovered by artist Vivian Dwyer at the age of 9. As Mrs. Dwyer said, she got chills when she saw the boys drawing, and she had never seen any 9-year-old drew like them. She specializes in acrylic and watercolor fine art, so Max and Louis started painting lessons with her.

Mrs. Dwyer has a very unique way with the boys. She lets them paint and draw what ever they like and what ever they want. She guides them to find and follow their own strength instead of telling them what to do.

Their Completely Different Art Styles

Unlike most kids at their age, Max and Louis don't like copying other's work. They love creating their own original artworks. Soon Mrs. Dwyer discovered that the twins have very different styles.

Max's fantastic imagination leads him creating abstract style artwork. He likes combining abstract style with pen and ink and watercolor to create all kinds of unexpected bugs and animals artwork. However, Max has a much broader range of interests in art. His ability to paint landscape is very impressive too. His first landscape painting already looks amazing. Max also likes surreal style. He enjoys creating fantasy artwork as well .

Louis's style on the other hand, is more specific and realistic. He mostly concentrates on flower drawing and painting, He is so good at drawing flowers that his artwork make people forget about his age. Just like Max, most of Louis's work is completely out of his own imagination. He would looks at the flowers either in person or online, then starts his own version of the flowers. His watercolor foliage looks fantastic.

Competition, Exhibition, Media

In July 2015, four months after they started doing art, they entered art competitions for the first time. Louis won the first place in 2015 Chelsea Chalk Art Contest. Max was one of the finalists in National Celebrating Art contest.

Since then, their artworks have been exhibited in various gallerias. Louis's " Flower Burst" was selected to be displayed on a roadside billboard in Greater Lansing in March, 2016.

In May, 2016, Max's " "Bee Careful" was juried into 2016 "Blooms, Bugs and Beasts" exhibition by The Scarab Club. The Scarab Club is one of the finest art galleries in Michigan and has more than a hundred years of history. The exhibition only accepted 37 artworks out of more than 600 submissions from all over the country. Max was the only artist that was a child.

In October 2016, Louis's artwork " Flowers for Mom" was also juried into an adult competition, "94th Annual All-Media Exhibition" by Ann Arbor Art Center. He was also the winner of juror award. The gallery is a famous hundred-year-old fine art gallery as well. Just like Max, Louis was the only child among 38 artists selected from more than 600 submissions.

Solo Art Show

Although Max and Louis have only started doing art for a little over a year, they have progressed so fast that people keep sending inquires to purchase their artworks. They had their very first solo art show in May 2016 and their artworks were sold for thousands of dollars . As friends of a child cancer patient, they are inspired to help cancer research. The twins donated all their proceeds from the show to Joey’s Wings Foundation, a childhood cancer foundation.
