Artist's Statement

As a social worker for more than 10 years, I had the privilege of working with adult survivors of childhood incest and sexual abuse who were seeking to heal from the devastation and pain of having been so violated. As part of their journey toward wellness, many of the extraordinary men and women began creating powerful and moving works of art that reflected that journey. Inspired by their strength and resilience, I immersed myself full-time into nurturing my own artistic talents, specifically potting and sculptural weaving - this "journey' began for me in 1993 when I left social work. My work reflects a celebration of life and is largely inspired by the beauty of nature and its bold, brilliant colors, texture and movement.

Formal Education and Training

I have taken many basketry/sculptural weaving classes and workshops taught by professional or experienced weavers from all over the United States and Canada. Eventually, I was invited to exhibit my work and taught free-form sculptural weaving classes through basketry courses offered at H.H. Perkins Co., the largest distributor of wicker, caning and basketry supplies in the Northeast. Weavers and fiber artists from all over the country were invited to teach workshops at their facility.

Affiliations and Awards

Member of Northeast Basketmakers Guild since 2003.
Member of Creative Arts Workshop in New Haven CT, 1994-2002

Services & Fees

"Teaching, Demonstrating, Exhibiting and Commissions available.
Depending on project, prices negotiable."

Other Desired Services and Opportunities

I love teaching sculptural free-form weaving in small (4-6) groups. I have had only positive evaluations from all the workshops I have taught. My classes are "loosely structured within a structure". I encourage participants to think "outside the box" and to incorporate meaningful materials into their project. Participants are invited to share their work at the conclusion of the workshop and tell the story of how it evolved.
