The aim of the Arts Council's Award Programs is to recognize individuals, businesses and advocates who have made significant contributions to the arts in the capital region through their leadership, commitment, vision and support. One Business Arts Award and one Applause Award and are presented annually.

Applause Award
The Applause Award recognizes an individual who has made significant contributions to the arts in the capital region through their leadership, commitment, vision and support.  The Arts Council Awards Committee will consider the following as a part of its decision making process:

  • Nominee has demonstrated leadership and hands-on involvement with at least one regional arts and cultural organization
  • Nominee exhibits extraordinary dedication to the arts and culture in the capital region

Business Arts Award
The Business Arts Award recognizes an individual and a business or business-related organization for their leadership, commitment, and vision in support of the arts through contributed know-how, significant financial or in-kind support, or development of exemplary alliances that have provided valuable support to artists and/or arts and cultural organizations in the capital region.  The Arts Council Awards Committee will consider the following as a part of its decision making process:

  • Philosophy, goals and development of the company’s support for the arts, including any formal programs or initiatives
  • Scope and depth of the company’s support for the arts, including how the company integrates the arts into its business operations; how long it has supported the arts; and how much time, expertise, money or other resources it has devoted
  • Leadership demonstrated by the business in encouraging other companies to support the arts and in developing collaborative efforts among the arts
  • Leadership and hands-on involvement demonstrated by the company in developing, implementing and supporting an innovative arts project

Nomination Deadline
Nominations for both the Applause and Business Arts Awards are due to the Arts Council by 5 p.m. on November 1. Materials may be dropped-off or mailed to: Arts Council of Greater Lansing, 1208 Turner St., Lansing, MI 48906, or delivered via email to: katie@lansingarts.org. If emailed, please note “Applause Awards Nomination" or "Business Arts Award Nomination” in subject heading and please provide materials as attachments in Word or PDF formats. No matter what form of delivery is chosen all nominations and materials are due by 5 p.m. on November 1.
