Funding Source: Funded by the City of East Lansing through their Downtown Cultural Entrepreneurship Program.
Stresses: This grant program is established to enhance the business climate in downtown East Lansing by supporting creative entrepreneurship in a variety of forms, including arts and culture.
Eligibility: Applicants locating their business in downtown East Lansing, or those already located in downtown East Lansing are eligible. Applicants must be involved in a traditional retail or arts-based business that includes, but is not limited to: individuals creating and selling their own products, galleries selling original art, and artists locating in co-ops or incubators. Applicants must meet low to moderate income guidelines as determined by HUD. Please see the guidelines document to review the income limits.
Grant Amount: Grant assistance is available for those with five or fewer employees. Total maximum support is $6,000 and the business owner or artist must meet low-moderate income guidelines. A small business loan component of the program is also available for larger capital needs with funds available up to $20,000. Please inquire with the Arts Council, as the loan program is designed to meet individualized need.
