Call to Volunteers: Would you like to help support the East Lansing Art Festival, but just aren't quite sure how to contribute? What about volunteering your time? Every year, hundreds of community members help to make the ELAF a success by volunteering their services during the festival. Lansing Art Gallery Internships
The Lansing Art Gallery regularly seeks those who may be interested in an internship with the Gallery. Interview required for all internship positions. Hours and schedule will be determined upon acceptance. Detailed information and requirements for internships are as follows:
- Education: Assist with the development and operations of visual arts courses and community outreach programs, creation of promotional materials. Qualifications: Strong communication and interpersonal skills, computer skills and professional appearance. Educational, fine arts, or art history background helpful.
- Exhibition: Assist with exhibit installation, preparations for gallery receptions, and duties related to offsite exhibits. Coordinate call for artists and exhibition jury, and assist with scheduling for exhibition calendar. Qualifications: Professional appearance, strong communication and inter-personal skills, fine art/art history background desirable.
- Gallery Shop: Assist with operations of Gallery Shop, including customer service for patrons and artists. Promote artists, including assistance with artist demonstrations. Assist Gallery Shop Manager with display of artwork. Qualifications: Excellent customer service skills, pleasant and competent phone manner, professional appearance, detail oriented and committed to keeping scheduled days and times. Fine arts or art history background, or retail experience helpful.
- Graphic Design/Public Relations: Assist with promoting and securing media coverage of Gallery activities. Design promotional materials, assist with quarterly newsletter, update web site, and create signage for Gallery events. Qualifications: Strong communication and writing skills, competence with Word and graphic design programs, pleasant and competent phone manner, dependable, well-organized, attentive to detail and deadlines.
- Administrative Assistant: Oversee computer database; give clerical support to Executive Director and Gallery Staff. Manage all Membership and Memorial mailings. Support Gallery staff; assist with Gallery Shop activities as needed. Qualifications: Excellent communication and writing skills, competence with Word and Excel programs, pleasant and competent phone manner, dependable, well-organized, attentive to detail and deadlines.

Lansing Art Gallery provides public awareness, education and enjoyment of the visual arts by promoting the works of Michigan artists.
Michigan State University Museum
Is seeking volunteers to serve in a number of positions throughout the year. More than 500 volunteers help the MSU Museum annually inside the museum and at special events.
- Information desk volunteers provide general information and other assistance to visitors as well as assist in orientation, as well as giving tours of the "Stanley's General Store" exhibit. Volunteers are especially needed on Mondays and weekends.
- Exhibition assistants help prepare and install museum exhibits, and prepare and paint exhibition galleries. Basic carpentry skills, painting experience and a flexible schedule are required. Volunteer assignments take approximately two weeks to complete. Time commitment is approximately five hours per week for two-week periods, every few months as exhibits are changed.
- Facilities assistants provide basic maintenance of exhibits and public areas of the museum. Tasks include changing light bulbs, touch-up painting and repairs in public areas, cleaning exhibits, and repairing labels. A basic knowledge of electrical systems, basic cleaning skills, the ability to lift and carry 25 pounds and a flexible schedule are required. This is a year-round activity. Time commitment is approximately five to 10 hours per week.

Michigan Women's Historical Center & Hall of Fame
Needs docents to serve on the first, second or third Saturday of each month from 12 noon to 4pm. Docents welcome visitors, answer questions and staff the gift shop. Training is provided. For more information, contact Pat Majher at 517.484.1880.
