“Indigenous People, An Illustration” an Exhibition by Nevin Speerbrecker — February, 2018

Meet Nevin

A lifetime resident of Lansing, Nevin studied at Lansing Community College in the 1980’s and learned from some of the Lansing area’s most established and well-known artists. Nevin has more than 30-years combined experience in graphic design and illustration and currently works as an illustrator, graphic designer and computer graphics artist. He enjoys working and experimenting in many mediums while honing his artistic skills.

His illustrations have been published in national magazines and on the cover of Lansing’s own City Pulse. He has also created several murals, including one that is located at the Capitol Area District Library in their South Lansing branch.

Artist Statement

“Indigenous, an Illustration” is a collection of illustrations of indigenous tribal peoples of America. The exhibition features works in pencil and marker and includes depictions of several different tribes. Also in this exhibit are several pieces capturing wildlife indigenous to North America and other areas of the globe.

In the coming years, I hope to continue adding to this body of illustrations, honoring our native peoples and animals and bringing attention to their spirit and love of the great Mother Earth.

Exhibition and Reception

Nevin’s exhibit will be on display at the Arts Council office at 1208 Turner St. in Old Town for the month of February. Please join us for an opening reception on Friday, Feb. 2 from 5-7 p.m. Come meet Nevin and talk with him about his work. Light refreshments will be served.
