Meet Dennis

Dennis is a Lansing based freelance illustrator and entertainer (caricaturist hired for private and corporate events). In the early 70s he was known mainly for designing concert posters throughout Michigan. Also at this time he was painting murals and designing newspaper ads and posters for shops inside Free Spirit ( a somewhat hippie department store in downtown Lansing).

He began teaching at Lansing Community College in 1977. During his 40 years there, Humorous Illustration (cartooning) was his specialty. He also offered a variety of workshops for adults and kids through the college. Dennis’ artwork pops up occasionally on City Pulse covers and event t-shirts. This year’s Bluesfest poster also features one of his drawings.

Artist Statement

This show features some of the doodles that I’ve done in 2018. I call them doodles because I don’t pencil them out first and then ink them… I just start drawing and let them grow into whatever they turn out to be. A majority of them I did especially for this exhibit because I didn’t want to show anything that has already been in other shows.

Also… some of this artwork is in my adult coloring book, Preston Potpourri Volume Three and available on t-shirts, tote bags, mugs and more ( available on Print-To-Order websites ).

Opening Reception

Join us at the Arts Council for an opening reception on Sept. 7, 2018, during Arts Night Out. The event begins at 5 p.m. and runs until 8 p.m. Come meet Dennis and talk to him about his work. Light refreshments will be served.
