Young Creatives

Explore Programs for Young Artists

The Arts Council has created an expansive program for youth in the tri-county area, officially launching the Young Creatives Program in April 2014. The program offers five key components to support arts and arts education for our young creatives. We are committed to growing the Young Creatives Program and providing more creative opportunities and outlets for area youth. We hope that you will take advantage of all the creative, innovative and affordable art programs that are offered in our community!

Our valuable work to recognize and support emerging talent has also been recognized by Michigan State University Federal Credit Union. We want to thank them for their generous financial support that will help fund printing, marketing, expanded scholarships and other
associated program costs.

YOUNG CREATIVES GUIDE 2023-2024

The Young Creatives Guide provides Lansing’s young creatives, their parents and their teachers with a listing of classes, camps, lectures, workshops and more for anything from writing to dancing to theatre and beyond! Currently the guide is virtual, but you can expect print postcards to be distributed for Summer 2023! Staff will update program descriptions on a rolling basis.

YOUNG CREATIVES BILLBOARD PROGRAM

With an aim to promote our area artists and create temporary outdoor public art, the Arts Council created its program, the Art in the Sky Billboard Project in partnership with Adams Outdoor Advertising. Through this juried art program, digital billboards are produced featuring the art of area artists. This collective art installation is a well-recognized aspect of our region's landscape and is celebrated by residents and visitors alike. The billboards are featured in locations throughout Greater Lansing and and outside the area to attract visitors to the region. A wealth of community feedback indicates the billboards are not only visually attractive but are also effectively raising awareness about artists in the region.

Art in the Sky 2022/2023 Billboard Program is closed until August 2024.

YOUNG CREATIVES GRANTS

Established to support and increase access to arts education for under-served youth ages 5-17 the Young Creatives Grant is funded by the Arts Council of Greater Lansing through its Arts Advancement Endowment Fund and Michigan State University Federal Credit Union. This program provides grants of up to $1,500 to selected organizations (must be current dues-paying member organizations of the Arts Council of Greater Lansing). Funds provide scholarships for children with financial need to attend classes and programs OR funds to support free arts/cultural programming with an educational focus, targeting under-served youth. Applicants may only apply for funds in one of the two provided categories, not both. Awards are competitive.

FY24 Guidelines

The deadline for this grant has passed. The next cycle will open June 2024.
