Grants

City of Lansing Arts and Cultural Anchor Grant Program

Funding Source: Funded by the City of Lansing through the Lansing Economic Development Corporation and administered with help from the Arts Council of Greater Lansing.

Stresses: The purpose of the Arts and Cultural Anchor Program is to provide programmatic support to arts and cultural producing and / or presenting organizations headquartered in Lansing who provide highly-visible, multifaceted, and accessible arts and cultural programs to Lansing residents. (A multifaceted program is a series of interrelated activities of high quality combined with a comprehensive educational component and community outreach). Supported activities must also contribute to the growth and development of artistic or cultural excellence and have mechanisms in place to ensure community involvement in planning and decision-making. They also impact employment, especially within their organizations, their community, and that of Lansing artists, creators and innovators.

Eligibility: Please see Anchor Program Framework document.

Grant Amount: Grant requests considered between $5,000 - $30,000. Total amount to grant $100,000.

Application Availability/Deadline/Term: Interested non-profit arts and cultural groups must submit a letter of intent to apply for each of the programs through the Arts Council by Sept. 3, 2010. Completed grant applications must be submitted to the Arts Council at 1208 Turner St. in Old Town by 5 p.m. on Sept. 24, 2010.

The Arts and Cultural Anchor Program is an annual program aligning with the City of Lansing's fiscal year 2010 - 2011 (July 1, 2010 through June 30, 2011) and the economic development goals of the Lansing Economic Development Corporation. Participation in the Arts and Cultural Anchor Program from year to year is not guaranteed, nor is there a commitment to fund this program, or participating organizations, at current levels if general fund appropriations do not allow.

City of Lansing Arts and Cultural Minigrant Program

Funding Source: Funded by the City of Lansing through the Lansing Economic Development Corporation and administered with help from the Arts Council of Greater Lansing.

Stresses: The purpose of the Arts and Cultural Minigrant Program is to provide project support to small arts and cultural producing and / or presenting organizations headquartered in greater Lansing (with funding preference given first to Lansing based organizations) who provide highly-visible, high-quality, and accessible arts and cultural programs to Lansing residents. Agencies seeking funding for arts and cultural projects must directly benefit the city of Lansing and its residents. Supported activities must also contribute to the City of Lansing's growth and development of artistic or cultural excellence and impact employment, especially through their organizations, their community, and that of Lansing artists, creators and innovators.

Grant Amount: Grant requests up to $3,000. Total amount to grant $10,000.

City of Lansing Sense of Place in the Arts Program

Funding Source: Funded by the City of Lansing through the Lansing Economic Development Corporation and administered with help from the Arts Council of Greater Lansing.

Stresses: The purpose of the Sense of Place in the Arts Program is to reward building a sense of place related to the arts community in the city of Lansing. The grant program will allow arts organizations the opportunity to apply for capital improvement monies to creatively design physical improvements and attractions that increase the visibility, access and celebration of the arts to customers, clients and the public while impacting the creation of a "sense of place" in the city.

Grant Amount: Grant requests between $2,500 to $26,000. Total amount to grant $26,000.

Collaborative Arts Grant Program

Funding Source: Funded by the Arts Council of Greater Lansing through its Arts Advancement Endowment Fund.

Stresses: The development of new, collaborative arts and cultural projects or activities to be presented within the greater Lansing region.

Eligibility: Non-profit arts and cultural organizations located in the greater Lansing region with current 501(c)3 status as evidenced through their IRS tax-exempt certification.

Grant Amount: Applicants may request up to $4,000.

Application Availability/Deadline/Term: Application forms and guidelines are available in mid-March. All applications must be received in the Arts Council office by 5:00 p.m. on June 15. Projects must take place between October 1, 2010 and September 30, 2011.


Individual Artist Grant Program

Funding Source: Funded by the Arts Council of Greater Lansing through its Arts Advancement Endowment Fund.

Stresses: This grant program is established to honor artistic excellence, advance the professional work of individual artists in the greater Lansing region, and to provide the public with access to regional artistic talent.

Eligibility: Grants in the Established Artist category are awarded to professional artists who have a five-year (or longer) history of artistic shows and sales. Artists should demonstrate a serious career commitment to the arts, and have a developed body of work. Grants in the Emerging Artist category are awarded to professional artists who have less than a five-year history of artistic shows and sales. Artists should demonstrate a serious career commitment to the arts.

Grant Amount: Provides $1,000 grants to individual artists in two categories: Emerging Artists and Established Artists.

Application Availability/Deadline/Term: Application forms and instructions are available in mid-December. All applications must be received in the Arts Council office by 5:00 p.m. on January 29.


Ingham County Hotel/Motel Tax Funds for Arts and Tourism

Funding Source: Five percent (5%) of Ingham County hotel/motel room tax receipts, per Ingham County Board of Commissioners resolution.

Stresses: The production of publicity and promotional materials utilized to attract out-of-county visitors into Ingham County.

Eligibility: Non-profit arts and cultural organizations located in Ingham County established primarily for cultural, eductional, artistic, historical or entertainment purposes. Applicants must have non-profit status as evidenced by an Internal Revenue Service 501 (c)(3) letter of determination or a copy of the Articles of Incorporation as filed with the State of Michigan, Department of Labor and Economic Growth.

Grant Amount: The maximum grant for any one agency shall be no more than ten percent (10%) of the grant funds available for regranting. The total amount available to grant is around $70,000.

Application Availability/Deadline/Term: Applications are available the last Friday in January and are due the last Friday in February.

The funding period is January 1-December 31.

Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs Minigrant

Funding Source: Funded by the State of Michigan through the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs and administered by 19 regional regranting agencies across the state. The Arts Council of Greater Lansing administers the program for Ingham, Eaton, Shiawassee and Clinton counties.

Stresses: Locally developed, high quality arts projects that are special opportunities to address local arts needs and increase public access to the arts. Minigrants support a broad range of projects which preserve, produce or present the traditional or contemporary arts that employ Michigan artists.

Eligibility: Non-profit organizations in Ingham, Eaton, Clinton, and Shiawassee counties planning an arts or cultural event. Applicants must have non-profit status as evidenced through an Internal Revenue Service letter of determination, i.e., 501(c) (3), or State of Michigan Certificate of Incorporation.

Grant Amount: Applicants may request up to $4,000 on a matching basis. Requests for minigrant funds may not exceed one-half of the project’s cost.

Application Availability/Deadline/Term: Applications are available for FY 2010 Minigrants. Application are due February 24 for projects held April 1 through September 30.

New in FY 2010 - No organization can receive a MCACA Grant and a Minigrant.
