Impression 5 Science Center
Will offer Summer L.A.B.S. beginning the week of June 23-27 with exploring electricity, magnets, water science and more. In these weeklong camps, students Learn About Basic Science through engaging, entertaining and hands-on activities. Different age groups will be investigating a variety of exciting areas throughout the week including hand-made flashlights, light-up hats, circuits, habitat exploration and water experiments. Students can participate in "Zaptastic Kidz" (ages 5-7), "Techno City" (ages 7-10), and "River Life!" (ages 9-12)!
Each day of camp starts at 9 am and ends at 4 pm, but students can be dropped off as early as 8:00 am and picked up as late as 5:30 pm. The enrollment fee of $220 (members pay just $180!) includes two snacks each day, so students only need to bring a lunch for each day of science and fun at Impression 5.

Mark Ruhala, Artistic/Executive Director of Ruhala Performing Arts Center
Will offer high-energy musical theatre dance classes during a Broadway dance workshop featuring West Side Story, A Chorus Line, Fosse and Swing! After a short warm-up, these classes will take-off into exciting choreography with the focus on performance. Explore what character-driven dance means and how to quickly execute its style. Freedom of movement and expression are the desired end results. Musical phrasing and dynamics will round out the emphasis of these fun classes. Reach Studio Art Center
Is offering an Open Clay Studio for novice or experienced youth and adults in clay hand building or wheel throwing at Reach Studio Art Center, 1804 S. Washington Ave., Lansing. The two-hour sessions are held Mondays and Wednesdays 7 to 9pm and Saturdays 10am to 12:00 year around. The Studio will be closed May 23 through June 7. Studio fee includes supplies and reduced fees are available for families and "Bigs" and "Littles" pairs from Big Brothers Big Sisters. The MSU Children's Choir
Will hold open auditions for children ages 7-17 years old for next season's MSU Children's Choirs at the Michigan State University Community Music School. Three choirs are offered: Preparatory Choir for ages 7-9, CMS Singers for ages 9-14 and the MSU Children's Choir for ages 10-17. The new season begins in the fall. Auditions will be held on May 20 from 4-8pm, May 27 from 4-7pm, June 24 from 4-8 pm, and August 23 from 9am-12pm. Potential choristers may also be interested in the MSU Community Music School's Choir Camp for ages 8-14 years, held June 16-20, or the Spartan Choral Camp for grades 9-12, held June 22-27. The Art Colony at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp

The Lansing Symphony Orchestra
Is seeking a Director of Communications. This position is currently part time (25 hours per week). Candidates should have a strong background in marketing & public relations and have knowledge of classical music. In addition, the successful candidate must exhibit a large degree of independence while maintaining the ability to operate and communicate effectively in a team environment. Working environment includes a small number of people of differing functions. Among the responsibilities are planning, supervising, administering and evaluating programs that meet or exceed attendance and ticket revenue goals for orchestra events and maximizing the visibility of the orchestra, consistent with Lansing Symphony policies and long-range objectives;.plan and manage all marketing activities, including but not limited to, public relations (press, program books, and newsletters); advertising (print, electronic, and media); season subscription and renewal campaigns (direct mail, telemarketing); audience research; new subscriber activities; and merchandising for the Lansing Symphony. NEA Challenge America Fast Track Grants
The application deadline for the Challenge America: Reaching Every Community Fast-Track Review Grants for Fiscal Year 2009 is June 2 for projects starting after Jan. 1, 2009. The grants enable organizations, particularly those that are small or mid-sized, to extend the reach of the arts to underserved populations, specifically those whose opportunities to experience the arts are limited by geography, ethnicity, economics or disability. Grants are $10,000 and require a one-to-one match. Projects should be focused, distinct activities that are generally smaller in scale and shorter in duration than those supported through other NEA categories. Projects are limited to one of the following specific types: Guest Artists/Arts Event, an arts event that will feature one or more guest artists; Public Art: professionally-directed public art projects such as murals, sculptures or environmental art that are developed through community engagement; Civic Design: Civic design activities that involve the renovation, restoration or adaptive reuse of cultural facilities or spaces; or Cultural Tourism/Districts: the unified promotion of community-wide arts activities and resources to enhance cultural tourism or activities in cultural districts. The Poetry Society of Michigan
Is accepting entries for its annual poetry contest. Among the categories are premier (poet's choice), humor, nature, religious, free verse (energy crisis), rhyming verse, hearth and home and love songs and other personal lyrics. Lansing Civic Players
Will hold auditions July 27-28 for Neil Simon's hectic farce "Rumors" involving four couples who gather to celebrate a tenth wedding anniversary of their best friends only to discover an attempted suicide - or is it? A missing wife, missing cook, a damaged car, whip lash, a reoccurring back spasm and rumors galore add to the comedic mayhem and the situation gets progressively more difficult to sustain when nobody can remember who has been told what about whom. Riverwalk Theatre
Will hold auditions July 13-14 at 7pm at the theatre for "Little Shop of Horrors," a musical by composer Alan Menken and writer Howard Ashman about a nerdy florist shop worker who raises a plant that feeds on human blood. Is accepting proposals for an upcoming exhibit of artwork created by more than one person. All artists or groups of artists over the age of 18 are invited to submit proposals. Proposals will be accepted through Sept. 19. The exhibit will be on display Oct. 24-Dec. 14 and will focus on the collaborative process of creating art. As mass communication and cross-cultural exchanges have increased over the last fifty years, opportunities to utilize human connections to produce artwork with more than one author have expanded exponentially. (SCENE) seeks to present these community-based artworks in a gallery context. Artists are invited to submit works in an assortment of media and styles, including but not limited to, sculpture, performance, video, sound, graphic design, photography, collage, painting, installation and drawing. Artwork in any media or any combination of media will be reviewed. There is a $25 entry fee per proposal. The newly formed Holt Community Arts Council, in cooperation with the Delhi Township Downtown Development Authority, is seeking a sculptor to create a permanent outdoor sculpture as part of the DDA's landscaping and beautification of a highly visible public area. Our Town Art Exhibition and Sale
Invites Michigan artists 18 years and older to enter its annual juried all-media show and sale at The Community House in Birmingham, MI Oct. 16-18. The Armory Arts Village

The Arts & Culture Information Area
Sponsored by University Outreach & Engagement, will provide one large central tent for arts and cultural based organizations from mid-Michigan at the Great Lakes Folk Festival Aug. 8-10 for outreach activities. Cost of space will be free as long as organizations are inclusive and reach neighboring communities that produce events or share information about their arts and cultural events. Organizations will be provided with a table, two chairs and approximately a 10' x 10' space under one tent. The space should be staffed, no donations or solicitations can take place but information and memberships may be offered, no performances or programming, but banners, posters and decorations are encouraged.
