Arts Council Receives $20,000 NEA Grant for Placemaking Summit 3

More Than $82 Million Awarded for Arts Projects NationwideIncludes $20,000 awarded to the Arts Council of Greater Lansing 

Lansing, Michigan, June 14, 2017—National Endowment for the Arts Chairman Jane Chu has approved more than $82 million to fund local arts projects across the country in the NEA’s second major funding announcement for fiscal year 2017. Included in this announcement is an Art Works award of $20,000 to the Arts Council of Greater Lansing to support its annual Creative Placemaking Summit, which is in its third year. The NEA received 1,728 Art Works applications and will make 1,029 grants ranging from $10,000 to $100,000.

“The arts reflect the vision, energy and talent of America’s artists and arts organizations,” said NEA Chairman Jane Chu. “The National Endowment for the Arts is proud to support organizations such as the Arts Council of Greater Lansing, in serving their communities by providing excellent and accessible arts experiences.”

“The Arts Council staff and board are so proud to be among those institutions chosen to receive an award from the National Endowment for the Arts,” said Arts Council executive director, Deborah E. Mikula. “This is a huge honor for our organization and will allow us to bring our 3rd Annual Creative Placemaking Summit to the Lansing area where it can continue to make an impact on creative projects in our region and beyond. We are very grateful to the NEA for this acknowledgement of our work.”

The 3rd Annual Creative Placemaking Summit will take place on Thursday, October 11, 2017, at the Lansing Center in Lansing, Michigan. The full-day event will engage 400 or more individuals who represent a cross-sector of our community and will provide a place to exchange ideas, seek advice and make connections around placemaking. Speakers will present cutting-edge work from statewide and national placemaking researchers and practitioners to provide tangible methods for the advancement of placemaking in the Capital Region.
