The Opportunity

“City Pulse” and the Arts Council of Greater Lansing are joining forces for City Pulse’s 2019 “Summer of Art” series. The project will feature original art by area artists on “City Pulse” covers each week as available from July 3 – Aug. 28. (Those submitting for the July 3 issue should submit Independence Day themed art.) Submission deadline is Aug. 15, 2019.

Eligibility

Anyone who lives in Ingham, Eaton and Clinton counties may submit entries.

How to Apply

Upload your submission on “Slideroom” (lansingarts.slideroom.com). Submission must include high-quality images suitable for display on “City Pulse” covers and an artist statement.

Submission Specs

Choose up to two (2) images that best represent your work and that will best translate to 10.25″ W X 6.5″ H front cover. (Art does not need be exactly these dimensions, but it needs to be a rectangle of approximately those proportions or be able to be cropped to meet them.)Submissions must be print quality at 300 dpi (or larger) and in jpeg format. No self images, promotional or commercial advertisement images will be considered. Artwork must be suitable for public space and not contain salacious or profane images. “City Pulse” reserves the right to crop any artwork to fit the space allocated.

Review Process

“City Pulse” staff will review all submissions and make final decisions for placement. The review team will base their decisions on the following criteria:

  • Quality of artwork submitted
  • Creativity used in creating image/artwork
  • Suitability of image for front cover of “City Pulse”

Artists Notification

Artists will be notified upon acceptance if they have been chosen as a cover artist.

Auction of Artwork

Chosen “City Pulse” cover artists must donate their original artwork to the Arts Council of Greater Lansing, who will then auction the pieces to raise money for the Arts Council’s Young Creatives Program. Artists will be compensated 30% of the winning bid on their artwork. (Artists will keep the work in their possession until it is sold.)

Additional Marketing

In addition to having their image on the front cover, a short bio on the artist will also appear elsewhere within the “City Pulse” publication.
