CEDAM’s AmeriCorps Information:

CEDAM’s AmeriCorps program connects local and statewide agencies to meet neighbors’ critical needs. Members create community, build capacity and serve neighbors across Michigan. Our AmeriCorps program advances equity for Michiganders in two key ways 1. Cultivating the next generation of leaders in the community economic development field and 2. Supporting economic inclusion for Michiganders.

Organizational Information:

The Arts Council of Greater Lansing has been a leading voice for arts and culture in the Greater Lansing region since 1965 providing direct support to hundreds of artists and arts and cultural organizations located in Ingham, Eaton and Clinton counties.

The role of the Arts Council is to support and promote the work of its constituents by assisting them in the growth and development of their artistic practice, financial stability and accessibility.

Role and Responsibilities: As a Michigan regranting organization, we facilitate grants for the Michigan Arts & Culture Council as well as the City of Lansing and Ingham County. We also administer several of our own grants, which are supported through endowment funds.

As a membership and service organization, we provide consulting, technical assistance and resources to help strengthen artist entrepreneurship and support arts and cultural organizations in their work. In collaboration with staff our AmeriCorps member will assist our membership in managing our grantee programs and tracking the progress of our grantees.

Our member will also assist with event support and will:

  • In collaboration with staff, support our grantee membership by creating documents, scheduling and arranging logistics for review sessions, spearhead the application process and other tasks needed to support an effective and smooth application process.
  • Manage online resources and program communications, promotions and social media events;
  • Invent and implement professional development workshops to enrich the knowledge of individual artists and arts administrators on current issues in the arts;
  • Supporting our grant TA workshops by securing venue, communicating logistics with participants, and procuring other supplies;
  • Support grant review meetings by coordinating logistics, supplies and record meeting minutes;
  • Support the planning and execution of Arts Night Out and the Creative Placemaking Summit;
  • Create a diverse volunteer recruitment plan. This may include but isn’t limited to phone banking, utilizing listservs/email lists, attending community events, and creating social media content to educate community of volunteer opportunities.
  • Recruit, orientate and schedule volunteers to Arts Night Out, Creative Placemaking Summit and other opportunities as applicable;
  • Arrange logistics for volunteer projects such as securing locations, times, and dates;
  • Participate in CEDAM AmeriCorps monthly meetings, trainings, events, data collection, reporting and additional items as needed.
  • Participate in AmeriCorps & Michigan’s AmeriCorps events and trainings.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Must care deeply about equity and hold it as a core value
  • Creative background or a special affinity for the arts is highly desirable.
  • Can juggle multiple projects at once. Attention to detail and organization required;

Member Position Description

  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrates familiarity with basic office equipment such as copiers and scanners. Familiar with Microsoft
  • Suite, specifically Word, Excel, and Power Point.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Be at least 18 years of age. Applicants must have HS diploma, GED or working toward the completion of one.
  • U.S. citizen, U.S. national or lawful permanent resident of the U.S.
  • Pass the following National Service Criminal History Checks: State of Michigan background check, State of residency (if not Michigan), FBI Fingerprinting, and State & National Sex Offender Registry
  • Moderate to proficient computer skills and the ability to learn new software quickly.

Compensation:

Members will receive a living allowance of $26,000 distributed in even increments, bi-weekly between September 18, 2023 – August 23, 2024. Members will receive student loan forbearance for qualified loans, health care package, childcare assistance upon eligibility, and continual professional development. Upon successful completion of service an education award in the amount of $6,495 will be issued. Members will serve 1,700 hours for the term = 40 hours/week.
