Artist Bio

Thom VerWys is a relatively new artist, beginning his serious activity in acrylic painting during the summer of 2012. Over the past several years he has created many projects, most of which are located in various collectors homes. After having retired from pastoral Wesleyan Church ministries in 2015, Thom and his wife Sue moved to Lansing and are enjoying the people and activities in the area.

Artist Statement

The title of this exhibit is “November Winds.” I love the cold, wild weather of November, which is reflected in this collection of paintings. The incredible beauty of the wind causing huge lake waves to mill about, crashing on the shoreline, quickly draws me to the late fall water’s edge. I love the sound of the stiffening leaves on oak-tree lined ridges and pine trees standing as sentinels of a season past, filled with a determined hope for the future. All of it sends me back, time and time again, to another new canvas to dream, to create, to live.

Exhibition opens Nov.1, 2017, with an opening reception on Nov. 3, during Arts Night Out. Join us from 5-8 p.m. at the Arts Council of Greater Lansing.
